The origins of Someburger

Our History

In the mid-1940's, two University of Texas graduates had opened a chain of burger stands named "Somewhere" in the Austin area. The name was inspired by the way the men used to decide where to eat during their college days:

"Where do you want to eat?" one would ask.

"I don't know... Somewhere" the other would reply.

Bags from Somewhere had the phrase, "I came from Somewhere full of Someburgers." Eventually, all but the word "Someburger" was dropped and Someburger was born.

At one point in the 1960's the Someburger chain had ~40 location in Texas. We've included a gallery of pictures for some of the locations below!

In the mid-1950's, the Johnson family purchased nine locations. Currently, only two locations remain - Baytown and the Heights.

Before moving to our present Baytown location in 1965, Someburger was a small walk-up stand located on Market Street. Though the building appearance has changed, the food has remained the same - juicy quarter pound beef patties and fresh cut fries. Our produce is also hand cut on site daily.

The Someburger tradition of offering great food and customer service remains our top priority!
